Elisa Vandersloot is a Canadian artist and graphic designer who came to the United States in 2016, to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The University of Tulsa. Being a part of the Tulsa Women’s Rowing Team has taught her the importance of teamwork and hard work while competing at a high level. She brings these qualities to her creative work and while working with other designers on a goal.
While her emphasis is graphic design, she has an interest in other media including photography, video, collage, and illustration. Like many, her interest in art began at a young age and grew into serious pursuit overtime. She has been featured at The University of Tulsa’s annual Gussman Student Juried Exhibition with honorable mentions, and their Stylus Art and Writing Journal multiple times. Her work was selected to be exhibited at TU President’s Skelly Mansion, in 2018 and 2019. Past Waves, centers around photography and is her largest body of work thus far, and will debut at Living Arts Tulsa on March 6th, 2020.
For 2 years, Elisa has been an active member within the University’s Third Floor Design Team. Third Floor design brings graphic design services to non-profit organizations within the Tulsa community. Elisa has personally worked with DVIS Oklahoma, Big Brothers and Sisters Oklahoma, and 108 Contemporary Gallery as well as other non-profits. She has also, been freelancing since 2018 with organizations in Canada and the U.S.A. Her current projects include a poster project for the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre in partnership with Luba Lukova and other TU design students. As well as illustrating a spanish/english children’s book for MUCEC; an organization located in Panama which provides services for mothers and children recovering from abuse.
Diversity, equality and sustainability are some of the most important things Elisa keeps in mind while designing. It is important to her that she uses design in order to better the world around her.
